The Nuts and Bolts of School Reopening in the Age of COVID-19: A Framework for Success in Louisiana Schools
This 3-hour webinar outlines a framework for adopting and implementing best practices for health safety protocols in K-12 settings during COVID-19. Presenters discuss current requirements and supportive guidance in the state of Louisiana for protective measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and maintain healthy environments. Recommendations are aligned with Louisiana “Strong Start 2020 School Reopening Guidelines and Resources.”
Additionally, panelists present a multi-tiered framework for integrating COVID-19 prevention and mitigation practices with academic and mental and behavioral health supports. This framework includes a comprehensive strategy for implementation and system change to enable LEAs to adopt efficient, flexible plans that meet the diverse needs of school communities during COVID-19.
Presenters
Dr. Jamechia Hoyle is a scientist and senior public health consultant with expertise in pandemic preparedness and response. She is an instructor with the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training, where she teaches various courses to increase domestic and international preparedness for biological incidents. Dr. Hoyle has managed multiple public health program activities related to global health security, infectious diseases, pandemic preparedness and emergency preparedness and response. Her work has taken her to over 70 countries.
Dr. Anna Long is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Louisiana State University, the Director of Clinical Training for the School Psychology Program at LSU, and a licensed psychologist. She completed her doctoral work at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Before coming to LSU in 2013, she was a Research Associate at the Center for Behavioral Education and Research in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Long has a keen interest in bridging the research to practice gap and specializes in implementation science and culturally-responsive practice. Over the years, she has supported schools in Southeastern Louisiana with their crisis response efforts.
