Southwest Border Security Initiative
March 24, 2009
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano recently announced a major southwest border security initiative to counter the proliferation of Mexican drug cartels. The plan calls for increased security along the border, including additional personnel and intelligence.
According to Secretary Napolitano, the objective of this initiative is twofold. First, increased security will help keep the violence from coming across the border into the United States. Second, DHS plans to do everything in its power to help the Mexican government eliminate these problems.
