LSU NCBRT/ACE Announces Affiliation with LaSpace, Prepares for New Frontiers
11/26/2019
BATON ROUGE – The National Center for Biomedical Research and Training Academy of
Counter Terrorist Education, or NCBRT/ACE, is announcing its affiliation with The
Louisiana Space Grant Consortium, or LaSpace, the Louisiana chapter of the National
Space Grant College and Fellowship Program.
This groundbreaking partnership will leverage the strengths of both LSU organizations as they collaborate and explore new training frontiers for Louisiana students and the workforce for the university’s role in aerospace research, education, technology and economic development in the aerospace field.
LSU NCBRT/ACE stands ready to collaborate with LaSpace to prepare a future workforce for the challenges of the rapidly evolving space industry, in fulfillment of the LSU NCBRT/ACE mission which is to influence, develop, and deliver specialized training and education, providing the skills necessary to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from complex threats and high-consequence events.
“It is inevitable that the coming decades will reveal a future in which commercial space operations are as routine as off-shore petroleum exploration and drilling,” said Jason Krause, associate director of operations & plans.” Now is the time to begin thinking about the human capital necessary for success. Both LSU NCBRT/ACE and LaSpace are LSU organizations with expertise that can help position Louisiana as a leader in this endeavor.”
The Louisiana Space Grant Consortium is a member of a nationwide organization that partners NASA with colleges/universities and other space related institutions to promote scientific research, workforce development, and public outreach to develop and strengthen long-term research capabilities that will make significant contributions to the research and technology Mission Directorates of NASA. Comprised of 33 Louisiana members and organizations, LaSpace is chaired and headquartered on the LSU flag-ship campus in Baton Rouge.
This program, funded by NASA and the Louisiana Board of Regents, contributes to the overall research infrastructure, science and technology capabilities, graduate and undergraduate education and economic development of the state.
“I think there are numerous projects that we can collaborate on through this partnership,” said LaSpace Director T. Gregory Guzik. “This includes the potential for a workforce development program for university/college students focused on commercial space flight support and opportunities.”
