LSU NCBRT/ACE Podcast Featured by The National Sheriff's Association
(10/18/2021)
On September 21, the LSU NCBRT Preparedness Podcast began a five-episode series focusing on the unique perspective of women in law enforcement. Since the Women in Law Enforcement series began, our first episode has been featured by the National Sheriffs’ Association.
LSU NCBRT/ACE is honored to have its work recognized and shared by the NSA, which represents thousands of sheriffs, deputies and other law enforcement and public safety professionals.
"I consider it a great honor to be among the two percent of women who serve as America's sheriffs, but I look forward to a future where sheriffs and chiefs are more representative of the diverse mosaic of our country,” said Sheriff Kathy Witt, chair of the NSA’s Domestic Violence & Crime Victim Services Committee. “Increasing the number of women in law enforcement ensures that every agency becomes a reflection of the community that they serve and is key to effective community policing, and I commend LSU NCBRT/ACE for helping with this endeavor."
Guests for the Women in Law Enforcement series include Brenda Dietzman, former colonel and under-sheriff for the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office in Wichita, KS; Shannon Paulson, assistant commanding officer of the LAPD’s Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations bureau; Maggie Varela, former Miami-Dade PD lieutenant; and Kristen Ziman, former chief of the Aurora, IL PD.
Throughout the series, guests will discuss topics such as female representation in policing, specific challenges women face in law enforcement, the decisions that led each of our guests to begin a career in law enforcement, and more. Episodes one and two of the Women in Law Enforcement series are out now. The remaining episode schedule is found below:
- Tuesday, Oct. 19 – Women in Law Enforcement: Mentorship and Leadership
