This course helps jurisdictions build relationships that result in effective multidisciplinary integration of emergency response capabilities, equipment, plans, and procedures during critical incidents. By engaging a jurisdiction’s greater response community, the course provides an opportunity for participants to cross-train and recognize the capabilities of organizations in their area. Using a realistic response scenario, participants will perform field training and assess their ability to integrate effectively with other disciplines in their community.

Participants will discuss what the term integration means during response to critical incidents. Instructors will present participants with a tabletop scenario in which they will walk through a response to a complex incident. The focus of the scenario will be integration in terms of resource management, command and coordination, and communication and information management. The second day of the course is a daylong field-based scenario in which participants will practice integrating during a complex incident involving multiple threats. Following the day 2 scenario, participants will conduct an after-action review to self-assess their jurisdiction’s response.

Target Audience

The primary target audience for the this course should include each of the following response team personnel:

  • Law enforcement, including patrol and special weapons and tactics
  • Fire department and hazardous materials personnel
  • Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) technicians or bomb squad
  • Emergency medical services (EMS)
  • Emergency operations center (EOC) and emergency management
  • Dispatchers and communications personnel
