Crime Scene Investigations for Hazardous Environments (PER-228)
This course addresses response in a hazardous environment, with emphasis on forensic evidence collection and recovery. The purpose of the course is to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to investigate a hazardous environment crime scene, as defined by the International Association for Identification’s Crime Scene Certification Board.
The modules are designed to fit together and progress in such a way that, by the end of the course, participants will have developed the required knowledge, skills, and ability to investigate a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-yield explosive (CBRNE), toxic industrial chemical (TIC), or hazardous environment crime scene for the identification, documentation, presumptive field testing, preservation, and collection for laboratory analysis of CBRNE or TIC and non-CBRNE or TIC forensic evidence.

Target Audience
The target audience for this course was designed to build upon the existing skills of crime scene investigation personnel involved in the forensics discipline and relate these skills to a hazardous environment.
The primary target audience includes crime scene investigators (CSIs), crime scene technicians, crime scene analysts, and laboratory personnel who perform crime scene response.
Non–crime scene personnel such as fire investigators, post-blast investigators, death scene investigators, or HazMat personnel involved in crime scene response are allowed to enroll in this course based on the needs of the jurisdiction and approval of NCBRT.
